Distribution: Far North QLD North of the Wet Tropics

Habitat: Eucalyptus forests riverine habitats

One of the most defensive Phlogius species, these titans pack some potent venom.  They can be quite easily differentiated from the nearby Goliaths by the much thicker legs, more domed carapace and more hirsute legs possibly due to coming from a harsher environment.  The Lakeland strennus is generally considered to be the largest available Australian tarantula although several populations come close or rival their size.
